How to Turn Off Copilot in Outlook
The short answer
Outlook has a Turn on Copilot toggle. On the web and in new Outlook for Windows, it is under Settings, then Copilot. On Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android, it is under Quick Settings, then Copilot. Turn it off once and it applies to Outlook on every device signed in with that account.

Microsoft's help page says Outlook for Mac needs version 16.95.3 or later, and the phone apps need the latest version from the app store. Outlook on the web needs no update.
What the toggle does
Microsoft describes it as a setting that hides Copilot entry points, such as Summarize this email, from the Outlook app. It works per account, for work and personal accounts alike, so if you have both in the same app, set it on each.
Classic Outlook for Windows
The toggle is not available in classic Outlook for Windows, and Microsoft gives no date for it. The fallback is your account privacy settings, which is a blunt tool: Microsoft warns that it also turns off other features you might want, such as suggested replies in Outlook, text predictions in Word, and PowerPoint Designer.
- In a Microsoft 365 app such as Word, go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings.
- Under Connected experiences, clear Turn on experiences that analyze your content.
- Select OK, then close and restart the app.
You only need to do this in one app; the others pick it up the next time they open. These privacy steps apply to personal Microsoft accounts. Work and school accounts are managed by your organisation.
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are separate
Turning Copilot off in Outlook does not turn it off anywhere else. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote each have their own Enable Copilot checkbox, and each one applies only to that app on that device.
- On Windows: File > Options > Copilot, then clear Enable Copilot.
- On Mac: the app menu > Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot, then clear Enable Copilot.
Microsoft notes that you cannot turn Copilot off in the iPhone, Android, or web versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
